Last month, Prescott High School hosted our last L6 junior tournament of the 2023 Summer Series! The tournament drew players from NAZ and the Phoenix areas. It started out with a rain delay but was soon back on schedule by the afternoon with ideal weather conditions to play.
There were some great, close matches as Cole James of PHS played three 3rd set matches to capture the consolation draw. Seth Walker of Prescott and Nick Thompson played in the boys 14s final with Seth coming out victorious 6-2, 6-2.
Grace Kim of Flagstaff came out of the toughest draw of the tournament in the girls 16s winning her final match to take 3rd place. 2-6, 6-4, 11-9. Her sister Noelle Kim won the girls 12s draw. Noelle played well in her round robin draw and her key match was winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-7 in the third set tiebreaker.
In another round robin draw, Dylan Harmon of Flagstaff came away with the first place trophy in a great battle winning 6-4, 7-6.
The boys 18s main draw final came down to August Fahy of Flagstaff and AJ Mraz of Prescott Valley. Both leaders on their high school teams of Flagstaff High School and Bradshaw Mountain High School. August walked away with the win 6-1, 6-4. Thanks to all who played and all the parent and coach support.
Great showing for NAZ players winning or being in the top 3 of every draw in the tournament. Hope everyone keeps working hard out on the courts and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at next year’s 2024 Summer Series!
