Lake Havasu Invitational Recap

On March 16th 2024 the USTA Northern Arizona hosted their first WTN tennis event in Lake Havasu Arizona. It was an unusually cool day for the area and the day started off with puddles on the court, but this didn’t detour the players. Doubles action commenced around 8:30 a.m. after a group effort of clearing the water off the courts. All draws were round robin flights allowing for plenty of competition.

Joe Behmer and Pratana Charoenphol of Lake Havasu City went undefeated in the doubles round robin, to take first place in flight A.

In flight B, Phil Hahn paired up with one of the local high school players James Jauss, they also won their respective matches to go undefeated.

After a short break in play, players that wanted more signed up and entered a singles draw. Again these matches were flighted and turned into round robin play to let players that don’t normally play each other meet fellow tennis players. This event featured players from the Havasu area, Bullhead City, Laughlin NV and Flagstaff.

Singles Champions were Rob Eastman and 2nd place Lemuel Pagente, with a notable finish by our doubles champion Pratana.

Hope to be back soon with our next USTA Southwest event. If you haven’t visited this area before, the backdrop of the mountains, palms, and the Colorado river make these 8 courts pretty special. Thank you to all that helped make this event a success!
