It was another busy weekend in Flagstaff for tennis and the Northern Arizona University Campus all around. NAU tennis teams hosted a Community Tennis Day for the public to come out and hit some balls around. Mother Nature also helped out with a new tennis experience with a Solar Eclipse during the morning hours.
On the indoor courts, juniors were greeted by team players and were able to drill, rally and play games on the beautiful college courts. Outside, adults were able to rotate on the 6 courts honing their skills with different drills on each court. This event ran 9am-12pm with a silent auction and pizza provided for all who attended. Community members were able to hit for prizes at the end and were able to watch a high level men’s doubles match between the top NAU players for fun entertainment.
Starting at 1pm, the USTA took over the indoor and outdoor courts for the first Tri Level league Invitational. This was a two day event featuring women and men’s teams. Both groups had 4 teams which gave everyone the chance to play new players and get qualified for sectionals. This was a doubles only event and participants featured our veteran league players, NAU club players and some former juniors who are just entering the world of adult competition. This gave the tournament a good mixture of energy on and off the court and the chance for more friendships to be formed.
Congratulations, to our winning teams. Women’s team captained by Kirsten Aamodt had an incredible finish jumping from third place to first in the final round and now being able to compete in the Tri Level Sectional event in Scottsdale, Jan. 19th-21st 2024. Other teammates include, Ann Harwood, Cindy Weick, Gwen Schulz, Laura Nicol, Leanne Mariano, Lori Pappas, Michelle Pappas, Vicki Penna. On the men’s side, the winning team captained by Camden Fetty’s team Lumberjacks and went undefeated over the course of the two days. This team featured players from different areas including Camden Fetty, Leyton Fetty and Dan Salcito from Prescott, Bob Guzley and Craig Bearchell from Flagstaff, Trent Calleja from Phoenix.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
